The Minister for Communications has asked the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications and the Arts to establish a Communications Accessibility Consultative Committee, bringing together disability representative organisations, advocacy groups and government departments with a view to improving communications accessibility outcomes for people with disability.

The Committee will discuss issues such as the provision of captioning and audio description for television, National Relay Service and broader communications accessibility issues. We also expect this Committee to provide advice to the Department and the Minister on potential policies to increase the inclusivity of communications services in the short, medium and long term.

The work of the committee is expected to support development of an Associated Plan for Accessible Information and Communications as led by the Minister for Social Services.

We will provide further updates as the Committee works towards its first meeting. If you would like any more information please reach out to commsdisabilitystrategy@infrastructure.gov.au.

Please find this information below in Auslan with captions and sound.
