Update on the Video Relay Service in light of 5 May 2025 Skype shutdown [Auslan video now available]

On Sunday 1 March, Microsoft announced closure of their Skype platform. The deadline for this closure will be 5 May 2025.

Skype is the underlying technology that delivers the National Relay Service's Video Relay call channel and we understand how vital this service is for Australians who are d/Deaf, hard-of-hearing or have speech communication difficulties.

The National Relay Service provider is in discussions with Microsoft to ensure that any changes are navigated smoothly for users of the NRS. We will provide further information as it becomes available. We would like to assure all users that the Video Relay Service will continue to function as of 6 May 2025 and beyond.
